Thanksgiving i San Francisco

Brev till min kompis Nina (vars indiska mor brukar arrangera tre Thanksgiving-middagar i rad – torsdag, fredag, lördag – i deras enorma town house in San Francisco):

“Fun dinner. Highlight: Allen produced a bottle of 1811 Napoleon cognac, the last remaining bottle from a case procured by his father at auction when he was a student at Oxford. Not only was it alive, it was quite remarkable. To think that it was bottled in 1811 (the year of the most spactacular Halleys Comet to date - and one year before Napoleon’s march of folly to Russia), the grapes were probably on the vine during the time of Marie Antoinette and Louis VI. Ah ….. History ! Talk to you later today. xxx Mom”
