Covering Swedes

This is my next story: Annika Sörenstam takes a shot at her third Grand Slam title this year.

Aftonbladet: Förbannelsen
FOX Sport: Sorenstam ‘a different breed’

I’m so excited – about going to Colorado, about covering another sports event (the second one in my life!), about possibly interviewing Annika Sörenstam! She is one of the most successful Swedes ever; and one of the most successful sports women in the world ever.

But I have to say it is a little bizarre that _all_ of the trips I have been sent out to cover so far this spring have been about Swedes in the USA:
Kenny Bräck, Indy 500; Indianapolis/IN
Annika Östberg, California Institution for Women, Corona/CA
Jan Eliasson, Embassy of Sweden, Washington DC
Annika Sörenstam, Denver/CO

Am I not supposed to write about the USA? Please, some kind editor, send me out to report for our Swedish readers about the everyday life of American farmers in Kentucky, of inmates in Chicago prisons, of church ladies in Alabama, or PR agents in Hollywood, about … anything out there.

But, of course, it’s great fun to cover successful Swedes, too. Much more fun to see and write about Swedish golfers compete than golfers of any other nationality.
