A Sunny Sunday in Harlem

I am gathering momentum as of my book om Harlem gentrification… As many of you know, I have been talking about this book project for more than five years - and now it really is time to make it happen (that means, I have to organize, dedicate time, start to actually doing fieldwork and write it all down!).

There have been a lot of events recently that will fit nicely into the book, and today something happened that gave me several useful contacts: 95 artists in Harlem showed their work in around 40 spaces, including many beautifully renovated town houses (think mahoganny panels, stucco, marble sinks, glass doors).

I, of course, started the walk-about much too late to see that many studios – but I did exchange contact information with lots of people living here who will be great sources of information for the book: all-life Harlemites, artists, self-proclaimed movers-and-shakers and so on.

And I got to hang out in Harlem Tea Room, which I didn’t know about before.

The first person who reads this and sends me an e-mail mentioning it will be treated with Saturday Afternoon Tea there some day!
